2. Mahatmas - New Bhaktacharitras Each Month

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.

RadheKrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Bharath is a very special land and contained within it are sacred places and rivers. Devotees born in this sacred Bharath ensure that they propagate bhakti in all corners of the country. This is the precise reason why the fragrance of bhakti can be felt all around our country. Our beloved Guruji has a special reverence for Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and in the coming issues, we will enjoy his bhakthi and the path of devoution that he had set an example for us to follow.

Gadhadhara was in that state of Krishna devoution and he was constantly crying Krishna Krishna. The tongue that has tasted the opposite sex, that has tasted different food varieties
should also taste the chant of Krishna. The tongue that is used to bragging about ourselves and our near and dear can also take pride in talking about Krishna. Let the tongue that is used
to sweets like sugar and sugarcane taste the sweetness of Krishna and his mantra.  The state of Gadhadhara was noticed by Suklambar Brahmachari and stopped Gadhadara to ask him
what happened. To that he says Nimayee Krishna,Krishna Nimayee as an answer to the question. Suklambar becomes envious and wanted to get into the same state as Gadhadhara. He notices Nimayee taking bath in Ganges on his way to biksha (begging food).  Suklambar renounced everything but he did not have peace and by renouncing everything peace will never
set in. If we just let Krishna in our hearts alone peace will come in and other unwanted things will naturally go away.

Nimayee falls at the feet of Suklambar and cries that he needs to develop devoution towards Krishna. Sukalmbar cries out that requests Nimayee not to fool him around. In turn Suklambar the grand old person fell at the feet of Nimayee and cries out that he has visited all holy places renounced everything but still he longs for devotion towards Krishna and that Nimayee grants him that boon. Nimayee remains silent and Suklambar says that out of true love and not out of ego that he said that he had renounced everything and that his soul is not at peace. He further says that all his penance only subjected his body to discomfort and that he did not attain true love for Krishna. Nor by penance or fasting or by renunciation that the Lord can be obtained but by mere love for Him will make us attain the Lord. All these acts like fasting, travelling to holy places, charity etc will only make others feel that we are living a pure devout life but if we in turn ask them you will find that there is void in their life. Leela continues...

RadheKrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically. In the coming months we will enjoy the 12th Chapter of Gita and the devoution towards the Lord as explained by our  beloved Guruji.

Draupati was in the  court of Dhridirastra but despite that because her heart was filled with Krishna , He came to her rescue. Similar is the case of Prahalada and the Lord rushed to save
him. If the corporation water comes only for an hour between 8 and 9 then during that hour our whole focus will be only on that water. Similar should be our focus on the Lord always in our minds as well. The Lord promises that giving up our minds and intellect to Him, we will always live with Him and that he assures that Himself. Rukmini despite being far away in Vitharpa kingdom mentally was living with Krishna and this is the reason why Krishna came to take her away as His bride. The Lord says to Rukmini's messenger, a brahmin, that He has lost sleep thinking about Rukmini and that is because Rukmini was constantly in thought of Krishna. Similarly Sita was in a forest in Lanka and was always thinking of Rama and vice versa Rama was always saying Sita Sita !

Vibheeshana was living among cruel demons and asuras but his mind was always thinking of Rama and he left everything and surrendered to the Lord. When Ravan chased Vibheesana
out of Lanka he cried in joy that so far he was mentally living with Rama and now that he can physically live with Him as well. Until his last breath Vibeeshana thought of Rama only and
such should be our lives as well. Tretha Yuga had concluded and Dwapra Yuga had commenced. Krishna had descended and was doing many leelas and despite that Jambawan's heart was full of Rama only. Similar was the life lead by Hanuman as well. Once everybody developed ego including Garuda, Sudharshana Chakra and all the wives of the Lord thought they were the ones closest to the Lord and nobody else can be closer in love towards the Lord. The Lord decided to kill their ego...

RadheKrishna  RadheKrishna..
Perumal Thirumozhi was as a result of Kulasekara azhwar longing to see and enjoy Lord Ranganatha. The Thirumozhi also results from the bhakthi of the azhwar towards Rama and Krishna and he begins with his longing for Lord Ranganatha. Everyone of us have so much of longing for the worldly affairs but the longing and the love for the Lord alone will help us achieve a good state.

Kulasekara azhwar enjoys Lord Ranganatha as Adisheshan in the first two pasurams or songs. Then he enjoys the Lord as enjoyed by Brahma. But the way Gopis enjoyed the Lord is considered to be supreme. This is because the not so intelligent Gopis were fully aware of the strengths of the Lord and believed that Krishna would save them. Of all the avatars,  Krishna avatar is considered to be the best and one that can easily be enjoyed. This was followed by Kulasekara azhwar enjoying how Narada and Tumburu enjoy the Lord. He continues further and sees how the devotees are enjoying the Lord and what items are safeguarding the Lord. Then the azhwar decides to mingle with the devotees and experience how it would be to be part of that group and enjoy the Lord.

Lord Ranganatha is always surrounded by devotees and huge number of them are always around singing the praise of the Lord. The Lord is lovingly looking them thinking that His
children have now developed true devoution towards Him and are enjoying His love as well. One group of devotees after other come and enjoy Ranganatha and he in turn lovingly looks
at them and enjoys their devoution.  After all the devotees have left he is still fondly recollects the enjoyment of the devotees and derives bliss out of that recollection. If we taste
happiness in the day , even in the night we will reflect upon it while trying to sleep as well. Similarly the Lord is enjoying the devoution of his devotees and blesses them that the devoution will multiply in future.

This large group of devotees have happiness but nothing else in their hearts. This is because in their hearts they dont have any hatred or anger or lust and the fruit of keeping Ranganatha
in their heart is happiness only. If you stock a wardrobe with full of gold and silver jewellery and whenever you open it you will find only jewells. If you stock them with reptiles, rotten food  etc and whenever you reopen it you will find only these things! Hence we should only keep the Lord in our hearts for happiness. Our heart is like that of a wardrobe and we should only lock the Lord inside and for no reason we should allow anyone inside this wardrobe. We should live with everyone, mingle with everyone and be happy but in our hearts we should only keep the Lord.

The pasuram continues next month..

Bhagawan takes avatar in each and every yuga mainly to safeguard the bhaktas and then to destroy the rakshasaas who trouble his bhaktas. So Bhagawan comes to this bhoomi from paRamapadham just for the sake of his bhaktas. Hence we come to know that bhaktas are very important to the Lord. Whenever Bhagawan comes to rescue his bhaktas, the other fellow people also reap the benefits. Our guruji amma gives high respect to all the bhaktas. Hence our Vedhanaadham's every issue will be dedicated to one bhakta. This issue we are dedicating to one of the great eternal devotees of the Lord namely 'Nampaduvan'

  • The great devotee whose devoution was recounted by the Lord to Mahalakshmi in Varaha Puranam about attaining Him through song and dance
  • The great soul who used to sing hymns in praise of Thirukurunkudi Nambi (deity given above) during every kaiskika Dwadesi days
  • The great devotee who kept his promise to a ghost that he will return back on singing hymns so that the devotee can be consumed by the ghost
  • The great singer who refused to give the fruits of singing the hymns and instead liberated the ghost from its curse
  • The story of this great soul was recounted by Parasara Bhattar to Lord Ranganatha some 900 years ago
Please check out Dhaasa Vedham to know about the pravachans and discourses being conducted by Guruji

1. The Divine Message - Message From Poojyashree Shree Amma - The Ultimate Liberator Bestowed By Lord Shri Krishna!

The main message of first skandha of Srimadh Bagawatham is "Forget & forgive the enemy who gave sufferings to you." Forgiveness is good...

Krishna is residing in our heart.Anyone can meditate this KRISHNA. You are entitled to meditate this form. This is told by SRI SUKHA BRAHMA

SUKHA BRAHMAM said "Hey my dear King ! Lord' name is the best one to chant. Surrendering to Lord is the best way to get rid from sufferings"

Want to know about the creation of the world ?Want to know about Supreme Lord?Want to know about the power of chanting ?Then listen BAGAWAT

Misunderstanding somebody & ill treating them is worse than hell. At any cost don't misunderstand anyone. Understand everyone's position

Pray sincerely. Pray calmly. Pray happily. Pray silently. Don't reveal your prayer to anyone until it gets succeeded. PRAYER IS SIMPLY SUPER

Being soft is a good quality. But you should not allow others to take undue advantage on this quality. YOU MUST KNOW TO SAFEGUARD YOURSELF

You can see the same KRISHNA in the nature too. Some great Yogis are meditating KRISHNA in the nature. It's not so easy for normal people

We should care the elders like Pandavas. King Dhrutharashtra gave all sorts of problems in Pandavas life. Even then they cared him after war

Gadhadhar falls at Nimayees feet and requests him to bless him with the true longing for Krishna. After much persuasion Nimayee says that Gadhadhara will experience it the next day . On hearing this he became very happy , danced and screamed in joy and became uncontrollable. Seeing this Nimayee also experienced true joy and they hugged each other. You can only be able to withstand this situation if you are in the same bhava or mindset like that of a parallel train track. Else you will not be able to bear the hugs as it requires considerable strength. Seeing this site even the devas wished that they had taken human form on the earth and enjoy such pure devoution.

The entire night was spent by Gadhadhar by chanting the name of Krishna. We should also do this as so many nights have been spent by us uselessly thinking about people. The sugarcane called Krishna is there and is up to us to eat and enjoy its sweetness! Our great devotees have extracted the juice as well and it is up us to drink or taste a sip. Once we get that taste  that it is very difficult to leave the juice.

Gadhadhara cries out loudly Krishna and hugs a pillar near by. At time he looks at his palms and shouts Krishna Krishna. Once we forget our body in true devoution even our body will manifest as Krishna and every single hair  root will be seen as Krishna. Gadhadhara runs on and off and hugs Nimayee and cries out Krishna Krishna and behaves like a person who has lost his mind. Gadhadhara wishes that he shed his body as he has experienced true happiness but Nimayee stops him and says that he has just tasted the tip of true devoution and there is much more to enjoy

If we rue over a simple jewellery loss of 5000 or 10000 rupees then imagine that there can never a price tag associated with realising the Lord.  The Lord in Gita instructs us in a similar way to give our minds to Him. To give another example that if we search around and find a dress that we most liked and when it gets torn by accident, we continue to live with the dress even after we stitch it.  In our minds the Lord should always be occupied in the same way we always think about lost opportunities or lost articles.

We only try to occassionally remember the Lord. In the morning we get up light a lamp and say a few slokas. In the evening also we do the same and repeat this on special occasions and celebrations days. But to live the Lord we must continously think about Him. The Lord categorically says that everybody will be able to give up the mind to Him and attain Him. Even Periazhwar laments about the lost time that has gone without thinking about the Lord. Many births and many years have passed without the thought of the Lord.

Even the world can be destroyed and recreated but there exists no birth or death for the soul. No great person can say the number of times he/she has been born as it has been countless births and deaths that we have undergone. We should finish this cycle and this should be our last birth. Even if we were to be born again then it should be like a state of happiness only as that of how a child experiences. The Lord reassures Arjuna that if he gives up his mind and intellect he can live with Him. The Lord also says that despite the location if we surrender our minds and intellects then we will surely live with Him..

Our desires are bigger than the sky itself. The Lord is facing the southern direction just to reassure Vibishana that he will take care of him and his country. There is no change that happens to the mercy of the Lord and we may experience mood swings with every visit to Srirangam temple but you can never experience a change in His disposition.  Right from Kulasekara azhwar days to Thondaradipodi azhwar, Aaandal to Ramanuja to ParasaraBhattar to present day Jeeyars , none of them are able to make out any difference to the Lord and He has been that way ever since. There is always love in the eyes of the Lord but sadly enough this is not being recognized in this world.

We give priority to the love between individuals that exist before they expect something from the other person. However the Lord's selfless love towards us is never recognized by the millions who live in India and we can easily count the few who live for the sake of the Lord's love towards us. Even during pralayam (deluge that destroys the earth) he does not dance but lies down silently so that the souls that are in his body are not disturbed by his actions much in the same way a pregnant mother will not do anything that may harm the child his her womb.

If you notice generally elderly people who lie down in a cot and observe his children and grand children and wish them they grow up well or their problems resolved easily. In the same way despite dancing to our egos all morning and whilst sleeping out of ignorance and tiredness in the night, the Lord longs for us to enjoy His mercy at least when we wake up! It is the same people and the same behaviour that we encounter each day but how is that we expect the next day to better than the previous one?

So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. Our beloved Guruji has a special reverence for Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and in the coming issues, we will enjoy his bhakthi and the path of devoution that he had set an example for us to follow.
It is an irony that we are associating ourselves closely with those who could have insulted us in the past janmas or births! It is by contemplating on the people whom we hate that we begin to acquire those qualities and in the process begin to like those people whom we hated in the beginning. Nimayee laments that despite going to temple daily and doing poojas he is feeling a sense of void. This realization is a very crucial thing to realize that we are possessed by our ego. There is a fine difference between self confidence and ego. What Dhurvan and Prahalandan possessed in the eagerness to see the Lord is self confidence and what Kamsa and Dhuryodana possessed was hatred and ego.
Nimayee prays to the Lord to get true devoution towards Him and that he should shed tears of joy on visiting his temples and seeing Him. Nimayee prays that he should get true devoution towards Krishna and that his soul longs for this association to get a glimpse of how it feels to be a true devotee of the Lord. This is the true boundary of happiness and there is nothing else that can be joyous than getting to enjoy Krishna. Nimayee prays that despite his lack of entitlement to be a devotee, he longs to be united with Krishna and enjoy his true love. He also longs to be like devotees of the Lord including Gajendara (the elephant), Dhuruvan and Drowpathi.
Then a sound emanates and the biggest puzzle in the life history of Nimayee is that at times he will  speak like the Lord and at time he will behave like a devotee. The Lord accepted  Nimayee's prayer as he said that he was nothing but useless and gave up his ego. No amount of devoution will help acquire the Lord until the point in time that we realize that we are nothing and give up our ego. Those who dont rely on anything but the Lord alone are entitled to get the grace of the Lord and devoution towards Krishna.

Those who are meditating on the form of the Lord are able to in some hours, some days or in some years be able  to enjoy the Lord. Meditating on the formless nature of the Lord requires us to control our senses, see the Lord in everything but even then they will never be able to describe the enjoyment of the Lord. The Lord also proclaims that those who are doing their duty by surrending their minds to Him is ensured of salvation and they need not return to this earth again. On hearing this Arjuna is overjoyed. The Lord can explain things for our happiness and our guru can simplify this for our understanding but in the end it is up to the individual to take efforts and enjoy the Lord.
It is because of our past prarabhdha karma that we have descended on this planet. Many are of the opinion that karma means sins but is not that true. Karma means all the good and the evil that we have accumulated over our past births. The Lord is asking us to just focus our minds on Him alone like how we will be thinking of a disease until the disesease is cured. Even Kulasekara azhwar says that much like the love developed by a diseased person towards the doctor, he longs for the love towards the Lord alone in his Perumal Thirumozhi. To give another example, if we are in trouble then whilst we walk or sleep or watch TV, our mind is constantly thinking about the solution to the problem and in the same way we should always be thinking about the Lord.
Just as a mother who waits for the child to return from home, we should always be engaged in the thought of the Lord and this is called Ananya Bhakthi or single minded devoution. If we have lost a jewel then nothing else comes to our minds unless we are able to find and recover the lost article. Until the gold jewel is found our mind is living with the lost jewellery andsimilarly we should be engaged our minds in devoution towards the Lord

If we were to remain happy then we should get rid of our sins. Kulasekara azhwar wishes that everybody should be happy continuously without hurdles just as water will flow out freely from a waterfall. Everything should give us happiness right from sleep, excretion, getting to work and meeting various people should all give us happiness. Walking, eating, digesting, seeing, hearing and moving around should all give us pleasures. Is it possible to remain this way? Yes if we continuously chant then those things that give us pleasures alone will be seen and be heard by us. I am saying this out of my own experience and the more we begin to hear about bad things the more the mind moves in that direction.

There are many ways to do siteseeing in Chennai. You can go by A/C car, bus or you can take a ride in the river coovam (famous for bad odour) and it is up to us to decide the best way. If we trust the Lord and chant then only good things will be seen and be heard by us. Even in Aandal's paasurams (poems) the only sadness you will find is that of her not attaining the Lord and no other sadness shall ever be found in her songs. Despite being a bad person, Kamsa enjoyed happiness because he saw Krishna everywhere he turned around. All these should happen in the world so that the devotees of the Lord can live happily and the Lord in Srirangam in lying in a happy state to ensure their happiness.

The Lord never forsakes us despite our mistakes and is everlonging to shed his mercy on us. The Lord forgives us saying that it is the nature of Kaliyuga which is making them commit mistakes. Everyone does mistakes and places the blame on the Lord. The Lord however takes this lightly and forgives all of us. Even when Vibishana was sad on leaving behind Lord Ranganatha, the Lord assured him that He is in a reclining pose facing his kingdom!  The Lord faces the south direction and despite this being the abode of Yama and disliked by people, the Lord favours this direction. Even if we are very egoistic and go to Srirangam temple, you will never find a change in the Lord and He will be as always be full of mercy and a charming face.

This issue we are dedicating to one of the great eternal devotees of the Lord namely 'Maha Bali'
