2. Mahatmas - New Bhaktacharitras Each Month

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.
RadheKrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Bharath is a very special land and contained within it are sacred places and rivers. Devotees born in this sacred Bharath ensure that they propagate bhakti in all corners of the country. This is the precise reason why the fragrance of bhakti can be felt all around our country. Our beloved Guruji has a special reverence for Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and in the coming issues, we will enjoy his bhakthi and the path of devoution that he had set an example for us to follow.

Nimayee gathers himself again and he tends to faint and loses himself quite often. All his friends were delighted to have such a great person Nimayee as his/her friend. Then his friends urge Nimayee to recount all his experiences and to that he replies that he is unable to proceed further and his throat has dried up. He promised that he will share everything tomorrow in the house of Sukrama Brahamachari and consoled everyone.

After that Nimayee takes a dip in ganges and while returning he was singing and dancing and at a point he hugged a tree and started crying that how will be leave his Krishna and how Krishna can also leave him. He longs like a gopi and cries that the place should change as Brindavan and that Nimayee should serve him as how the gopis had served Krishna. Finally Nimayee manages to collect himself and returns home. His mother feeds him food and he only takes a few gulps. Then his wife Vishnu Priya comes and starts to comfort him and Nimayee requests her to rely only on chanting the name of the Lord and nothing else. He also instructs her to chant continuously.

Nimayee also proceeds to advise her that the youth and the body is not permanent and that she should forget the relationships like husband and wife. Everybody is a child of the Lord and that the duty of our birth is to serve the Lord. He also requests her to do devoution like Prahalad, Dhuruvan, Radhikha and the Gopis.

Leela continues...

RadheKrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically. In the coming months we will enjoy the 12th Chapter of Gita and the devoution towards the Lord as explained by our  beloved Guruji.

The Lord easily has said that if we give our minds to Him, we will live with Him. But in reality it is not that easy to follow this Even during satsangam sessions, the mind is constantly wandering about the events of life. If this being the case where will we give up our minds and intellect to the Lord and live with Him. Arjuna himself had similar doubts and thinks that the Lord only manifests for some rare souls like Namadeva, Thukaram, Meera, Janabai and for ordinary souls he does not manifest. Even in temples, only rarely we do accept that the Lord Himself is present. There  are also people who proclaim that all good deeds happen to them due to their past blessings and that the Lord is around just to add peace of mind.

I know of a very old man who used to sing bhajans for hours today and at the end of all that he said that the past karmas cannot be erased. I did cry a whole night thinking about the statement. This is because if everything happens due to karma then we dont need to chant or go to temples and there is no need for the Lord Himself. The Lord is capable of transforming all our past karmas. Even the Azhwar proclaims that if we are the biggest sinner, the Lord will only look at our good deeds and forget the past sins. This is evident in the story of Ajamila and the meaning that we should derive is that the Lord will certainly save us even if we are the worst sinner and if we just doing our karma and chanting the name of the Lord, it is evident that He is bound to protect us.

But if we misunderstand and think that like Ajamila we can worship the Lord towards the end of our life, it will not work out. Ajamila was able to recognize that his end has come and hence was able to do this. For most people , Yama comes in the form of a lorry and imagine our state and whether we can shout 'Narayana'!  Many people pass away whilst they are fast asleep and hence nothing is determinate here. Hence we should surrender our mind to the Lord and the past karmas are pulling and pushing the mind. Arjuna wonders that given the karma and its play, how else we will surrender our minds to the Lord.

Perumal Thirumozhi was as a result of Kulasekara azhwar longing to see and enjoy Lord Ranganatha. The Thirumozhi also results from the bhakthi of the azhwar towards Rama and Krishna and he begins with his longing for Lord Ranganatha. Everyone of us have so much of longing for the worldly affairs but the longing and the love for the Lord alone will help us achieve a good state.

Kulasekara azhwar enjoys Lord Ranganatha as Adisheshan in the first two pasurams or songs. Then he enjoys the Lord as enjoyed by Brahma. But the way Gopis enjoyed the Lord is considered to be supreme. This is because the not so intelligent Gopis were fully aware of the strengths of the Lord and believed that Krishna would save them. Of all the avatars,  Krishna avatar is considered to be the best and one that can easily be enjoyed. This was followed by Kulasekara azhwar enjoying how Narada and Tumburu enjoy the Lord. He continues further and sees how the devotees are enjoying the Lord and what items are safeguarding the Lord. Then the azhwar decides to mingle with the devotees and experience how it would be to be part of that group and enjoy the Lord.

Lord Ranganatha is the Lord and His mercy is bigger than the sky. This mercy cannot be measured even if are to enjoy that in millions of our births. Without any specific reason He has been showering His constant grace on us. It is for the very reason to enjoy His mercy that we are to do devoution. It is not just for Srirangam but by lying between the rivers Cauvery and Coleroon, the Lord manages all the 14 worlds including Vaikunda, Brahmaloka and Tiruparkadal! It is said that the Lord Ranganatha is closer to us than to Brahma or Shiva.

This is because the Brahmalokha and Rudralokha are beyond our Solar system and the time zones also vary. Hence they need to calculate and land in India properly to be able to enjoy Lord Ranganatha. But for us, we just have to simply join the line and we will have the darshan ensured by the Lord. Even Indra is absorbed in the thought of Ramba and Oorvasi and that is not his fault. If we go to heaven, then all of us will lose ourselves and that is the nature of heaven. However in this world, we also lose ourselves but immediately we will recover and think of our faults. Whereas in heaven, people do penance to reach there and hence there will not be any feeling of guilt there

Even if we tend to enjoy other girls, we immediately correct ourselves and repent and this is the true gift of India. However in other countries, this habit of living with people and leaving them at will is quite common and accepted. India is the only place where we have proclaimed that beyond these enjoyments there is a bigger enjoyment at stake.  Kulasekara azhwar being in Vanjikalam longs to have the darshan of this Lord in Srirangam

5. Samarpanam
parithraanaaya sadhoonaam vinasaya cha dhushkrutham
dharma sansthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge
Bhagawan takes avatar in each and every yuga mainly to safeguard the bhaktas and then to destroy the rakshasaas who trouble his bhaktas. So Bhagawan comes to this bhoomi from paRamapadham just for the sake of his bhaktas. Hence we come to know that bhaktas are very important to the Lord. Whenever Bhagawan comes to rescue his bhaktas, the other fellow people also reap the benefits. Our guruji amma gives high respect to all the bhaktas. Hence our Vedhanaadham's every issue will be dedicated to one bhakta. This issue we are dedicating to one of the great eternal devotees of the Lord namely 'Narsinh Mehta'

  • The great soul was born in 1414 as Narsi Bhagat in the Nagar Brahmin community in the ancient town of Talaja in Saurashtra, was married to Manekbai and had two children - a boy named Shamladas and a girl named Kuneowwabai.
  • The great devotee for whom Shiva himself took him to Vrindavan showed the eternal leelas of Krishna and Gopis
  • The great poet is considered an AdiKavi (foremost) among Gujarati poets and sang the  famous song "Vashinava Janato"
  • The great soul also composed various works depicting how the Lord helped him and includes other works such as Chaturis, Dana Leela, Sudama Charit, Govinda Gamana and the various exploits of Radha and Krishna
We leave you to enjoy the original verse and the translation of this saint's most popular composition Vaishnava Janato

The Original Hymn

Vaishnav Jan to taynay kahyeeye,

Translation
A godlike man is one,
Who feels another’s pain
Who shares another’s sorrow,
And pride does disdain.
Who regards himself as the lowliest of the low,
Speaks not a word of evil against any one
One who keeps himself steadfast in words, body and mind,
Blessed is the mother who gives birth to such a son.
Who looks upon everyone as his equal and has renounced lust, And who honours women like he honours his mother
Whose tongue knows not the taste of falsehood till his last breath, Nor covets another’s worldly goods.
He does not desire worldly things,
For he treads the path of renunciation
Ever on his lips is Rama’s holy name,
All places of pilgrimage are within him.
One who is not greedy and deceitful,
And has conquered lust and anger
Through such a man Saint Narsaiyon has a godly vision,
Generations to come, of such a man, will attain salvation
