2. Mahatmas - New Bhaktacharitras Each Month

India is the holy land with so many bhaktas (devotees). When we go through the Indian history, there must be a bhakta in every period. That is the greatness of this sacred land. Bhaktas are the role model for all the bonded souls. They enjoy their life in a perfect way. Bhaktas surrender themselves to the Lotus feet of Lord. By hearing or reading bhaktas' divine story, the bonded soul is enlightened to come out of the worldwide bondages.

RadheKrishna! Sincere chanting and listening to the great stories of devotees will surely give a peace of mind to everybody, even in this 21st century. So many people think that listening to the devotee's stories is a waste of time and there is no benefit at all. If somebody wants to realize the power of bagawan, first of all they must listen bhaktha charithram [stories of devotees]. There are so many advantages in listening to baktha charithram.

Bharath is a very special land and contained within it are sacred places and rivers. Devotees born in this sacred Bharath ensure that they propagate bhakti in all corners of the country. This is the precise reason why the fragrance of bhakti can be felt all around our country. Our beloved Guruji has a special reverence for Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and in the coming issues, we will enjoy his bhakthi and the path of devoution that he had set an example for us to follow.

Gadhadhara was in that state of Krishna devoution and he was constantly crying Krishna Krishna. The tongue that has tasted the opposite sex, that has tasted different food varieties
should also taste the chant of Krishna. The tongue that is used to bragging about ourselves and our near and dear can also take pride in talking about Krishna. Let the tongue that is used
to sweets like sugar and sugarcane taste the sweetness of Krishna and his mantra.  The state of Gadhadhara was noticed by Suklambar Brahmachari and stopped Gadhadara to ask him
what happened. To that he says Nimayee Krishna,Krishna Nimayee as an answer to the question. Suklambar becomes envious and wanted to get into the same state as Gadhadhara. He notices Nimayee taking bath in Ganges on his way to biksha (begging food).  Suklambar renounced everything but he did not have peace and by renouncing everything peace will never
set in. If we just let Krishna in our hearts alone peace will come in and other unwanted things will naturally go away.

Nimayee falls at the feet of Suklambar and cries that he needs to develop devoution towards Krishna. Sukalmbar cries out that requests Nimayee not to fool him around. In turn Suklambar the grand old person fell at the feet of Nimayee and cries out that he has visited all holy places renounced everything but still he longs for devotion towards Krishna and that Nimayee grants him that boon. Nimayee remains silent and Suklambar says that out of true love and not out of ego that he said that he had renounced everything and that his soul is not at peace. He further says that all his penance only subjected his body to discomfort and that he did not attain true love for Krishna. Nor by penance or fasting or by renunciation that the Lord can be obtained but by mere love for Him will make us attain the Lord. All these acts like fasting, travelling to holy places, charity etc will only make others feel that we are living a pure devout life but if we in turn ask them you will find that there is void in their life. Leela continues...

RadheKrishna.Hinduism is an ancient religion. All the things that have been spoken in Hindu religion can be applied in practical life. Although in 21st century till everyone can apply this in his or her daily life. The aim of Hindu religion is to provide total happiness to everyone at all times (or any point of time). The essence of Hinduism is told in "Bhagawad Gita". In order to realize what is said in Bhagawad Gita it is a compulsory (must) to have an unconditional faith on Bhagawad Gita. So many people have benefited in their lives because of the (by reading) shlokas of Bhagawad Gita. In Bhagawad Gita, Bhagawan Shri Krishna has told the way to lead a happy life in such an easy way that even a normal layman can easily understand. The slokas are so simple that anyone can understand and use it practically. In the coming months we will enjoy the 12th Chapter of Gita and the devoution towards the Lord as explained by our  beloved Guruji.

Draupati was in the  court of Dhridirastra but despite that because her heart was filled with Krishna , He came to her rescue. Similar is the case of Prahalada and the Lord rushed to save
him. If the corporation water comes only for an hour between 8 and 9 then during that hour our whole focus will be only on that water. Similar should be our focus on the Lord always in our minds as well. The Lord promises that giving up our minds and intellect to Him, we will always live with Him and that he assures that Himself. Rukmini despite being far away in Vitharpa kingdom mentally was living with Krishna and this is the reason why Krishna came to take her away as His bride. The Lord says to Rukmini's messenger, a brahmin, that He has lost sleep thinking about Rukmini and that is because Rukmini was constantly in thought of Krishna. Similarly Sita was in a forest in Lanka and was always thinking of Rama and vice versa Rama was always saying Sita Sita !

Vibheeshana was living among cruel demons and asuras but his mind was always thinking of Rama and he left everything and surrendered to the Lord. When Ravan chased Vibheesana
out of Lanka he cried in joy that so far he was mentally living with Rama and now that he can physically live with Him as well. Until his last breath Vibeeshana thought of Rama only and
such should be our lives as well. Tretha Yuga had concluded and Dwapra Yuga had commenced. Krishna had descended and was doing many leelas and despite that Jambawan's heart was full of Rama only. Similar was the life lead by Hanuman as well. Once everybody developed ego including Garuda, Sudharshana Chakra and all the wives of the Lord thought they were the ones closest to the Lord and nobody else can be closer in love towards the Lord. The Lord decided to kill their ego...

RadheKrishna  RadheKrishna..
Perumal Thirumozhi was as a result of Kulasekara azhwar longing to see and enjoy Lord Ranganatha. The Thirumozhi also results from the bhakthi of the azhwar towards Rama and Krishna and he begins with his longing for Lord Ranganatha. Everyone of us have so much of longing for the worldly affairs but the longing and the love for the Lord alone will help us achieve a good state.

Kulasekara azhwar enjoys Lord Ranganatha as Adisheshan in the first two pasurams or songs. Then he enjoys the Lord as enjoyed by Brahma. But the way Gopis enjoyed the Lord is considered to be supreme. This is because the not so intelligent Gopis were fully aware of the strengths of the Lord and believed that Krishna would save them. Of all the avatars,  Krishna avatar is considered to be the best and one that can easily be enjoyed. This was followed by Kulasekara azhwar enjoying how Narada and Tumburu enjoy the Lord. He continues further and sees how the devotees are enjoying the Lord and what items are safeguarding the Lord. Then the azhwar decides to mingle with the devotees and experience how it would be to be part of that group and enjoy the Lord.

Lord Ranganatha is always surrounded by devotees and huge number of them are always around singing the praise of the Lord. The Lord is lovingly looking them thinking that His
children have now developed true devoution towards Him and are enjoying His love as well. One group of devotees after other come and enjoy Ranganatha and he in turn lovingly looks
at them and enjoys their devoution.  After all the devotees have left he is still fondly recollects the enjoyment of the devotees and derives bliss out of that recollection. If we taste
happiness in the day , even in the night we will reflect upon it while trying to sleep as well. Similarly the Lord is enjoying the devoution of his devotees and blesses them that the devoution will multiply in future.

This large group of devotees have happiness but nothing else in their hearts. This is because in their hearts they dont have any hatred or anger or lust and the fruit of keeping Ranganatha
in their heart is happiness only. If you stock a wardrobe with full of gold and silver jewellery and whenever you open it you will find only jewells. If you stock them with reptiles, rotten food  etc and whenever you reopen it you will find only these things! Hence we should only keep the Lord in our hearts for happiness. Our heart is like that of a wardrobe and we should only lock the Lord inside and for no reason we should allow anyone inside this wardrobe. We should live with everyone, mingle with everyone and be happy but in our hearts we should only keep the Lord.

The pasuram continues next month..
5. Samarpanam
parithraanaaya sadhoonaam vinasaya cha dhushkrutham
dharma sansthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge

Bhagawan takes avatar in each and every yuga mainly to safeguard the bhaktas and then to destroy the rakshasaas who trouble his bhaktas. So Bhagawan comes to this bhoomi from paRamapadham just for the sake of his bhaktas. Hence we come to know that bhaktas are very important to the Lord. Whenever Bhagawan comes to rescue his bhaktas, the other fellow people also reap the benefits. Our guruji amma gives high respect to all the bhaktas. Hence our Vedhanaadham's every issue will be dedicated to one bhakta. This issue we are dedicating to one of the great eternal devotees of the Lord namely 'Nampaduvan'

  • The great devotee whose devoution was recounted by the Lord to Mahalakshmi in Varaha Puranam about attaining Him through song and dance
  • The great soul who used to sing hymns in praise of Thirukurunkudi Nambi (deity given above) during every kaiskika Dwadesi days
  • The great devotee who kept his promise to a ghost that he will return back on singing hymns so that the devotee can be consumed by the ghost
  • The great singer who refused to give the fruits of singing the hymns and instead liberated the ghost from its curse
  • The story of this great soul was recounted by Parasara Bhattar to Lord Ranganatha some 900 years ago
